Palmer Luckey has suggested 'oxytocin doping' for marriage counselling as a way to end the 'tragedy of divorce', the billionaire Oculus and Anduril co-founder said in remarks circulating on X.
X user Cheyenne Hunt accused him on 9 October 2026 of proposing to 'force' women to bond with their husbands, a characterisation Luckey called 'crazy'.
What Luckey's 'Oxytocin Doping' Pitch Leaves Out
Every product comes with a spec sheet: the dose, how it is delivered, who can opt out. Luckey's remarks, as posted, give none of them.
He said most couples who want to separate 'should stay together, especially for their kids', and that oxytocin could help. At the risk of overextending the analogy, the missing line item appears to be whether either partner could say no.
He reportedly offered the idea when asked what he would build from scratch, and no company, trial or approval linked to it had been publicly reported by 9 October 2026.
Luckey co-founded Oculus, the virtual reality headset maker later bought by Facebook, and Anduril, a US defence technology company.
2020 Review and 2023 Vole Study Challenge the Biology
Luckey said 'we understand mammal pair bonding pretty well' and called oxytocin use 'pure biology'. Based on which research? The posted remarks do not say.
A 2020 review in Perspectives on Psychological Science found that oxytocin's context-dependent effects in healthy people, which differ by person or setting, produced highly varied results. Most were never retested, and replications that were attempted largely failed.
Researchers at the University of California, San Francisco, and Stanford University reported in Neuron on 27 January 2023 that prairie voles bred without oxytocin receptors still formed pair bonds. They said the single-hormone model of bonding looks oversimplified.
Luckey also said oxytocin does not create dependency. A 2011 review of 38 trials in Psychoneuroendocrinology found no reliable side effects at research doses given briefly in controlled settings, but logged three reports of adverse reactions tied to misuse or longer-term use.
A 2024 systematic review of 24 psychotherapy studies found early signs of help for depression, though samples were small. Neither review examined divorce.
Health experiments by tech founders have drawn scrutiny before, such as Bryan Johnson's longevity programme.
Cheyenne Hunt's 'Forced Marriage' Claim Meets Luckey's Reply
A clip of the remarks features in a 5 October 2026 episode of the podcast My First Million, and the X account 'dnap' posted it on 7 October 2026.
Hunt quoted that post two days later, calling it part of a 'radical forced marriage agenda' that sees women's autonomy as a threat.

Luckey replied on X that it was 'crazy' to characterise marriage counselling that way. In the remarks, he said oxytocin is used for 'women who don't bond with their husbands'.
Nothing in the text describes giving oxytocin to anyone without their consent. Who would give it, and could a partner refuse? The posted remarks do not say.
Reddit Commenters Split on Science, Consent and the Business Case
Threads about the remarks showed scepticism about the science and unease about consent. One commenter in the r/Biohackers forum wrote that oxytocin 'does not magically induce pair bonding', while users in r/BlatantMisogyny criticised using a drug to keep someone in a relationship they might otherwise leave.

Not all of the reaction was hostile. In r/EntrepreneurDB, one commenter wrote 'I don't care about him as a person but an idea is interesting', though others doubted it would work. The threads are a snapshot of anonymous users, not a survey of opinion.
Anduril's UK Contracts and Oxytocin's Prescription-Only Status
Anduril UK, the company's British arm, won a contract worth about £30 million on 6 March 2025 to supply drones to Ukraine, the UK Ministry of Defence said.
Luckey called oxytocin 'totally unregulated' in a remark that appears to refer to bulk chemical supply, and said a kilogram can be bought from Sigma-Aldrich. In the UK, the licensed oxytocin infusion is listed as a prescription-only medicine on the electronic medicines compendium.
Would any such product need a prescription in Britain? The posted remarks do not say.
