Elon Musk Bows to Trump’s ‘Super Intelligence’ Rebrand and Renames SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI

The billionaire’s rebranding follows a White House push to replace ‘artificial intelligence’ with ‘superintelligence’

Elon Musk has agreed to rename SpaceXAI, its AI unit, as 'SpaceXSI', after declaring that artificial intelligence is dead and embracing Donald Trump's new favourite buzzword: 'super intelligence'.

The tech billionaire stunned followers on Sunday morning when he posted on X: 'No more AI. SI. It's better.' He then added: 'It always was,' alongside a picture of Nick Bostrom's book Superintelligence.

When one user asked Musk about 'renaming to SpaceXSI', the billionaire replied: 'Yes, we will make that change.'

The move comes after Trump's executive order told federal agencies to use 'super intelligence' and 'SI' instead of 'AI' in official communications.

The President has also taken aim at the word 'artificial', calling it a 'terrible word' and saying it was amazing that it had lasted so long.

Musk was among the tech titans who joined Trump at the White House last week, alongside Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Jensen Huang, Dario Amodei, Sundar Pichai and Alex Karp. The group signed the White House Accord on Super Intelligence.

Musk's Latest Rebrand Sparks Twitter Comparisons

The announcement was met with plenty of scepticism online, with one X account sarcastically commenting: 'It's gonna work as well as Twitter rebrand.'

The jab was a pointed reminder of Musk's own controversial decision to replace the Twitter name and branding with X — and suggested some users are already viewing the latest name change with a similar degree of disbelief.

Another user pushed back even more strongly, writing: 'It's always be AI and will always be Twitter. It is AI, Be your own person. Trump wont be president forever.'

The comments highlight the debate surrounding the proposed terminology. For some, 'super intelligence' could describe a more advanced form of AI capable of outperforming humans across a wide range of tasks.

For others, however, the sudden push to replace the familiar term 'AI' risks looking more like a branding exercise than a technological revolution.

The comment reflects a wider argument surrounding the proposed terminology: whether 'super intelligence' represents a meaningful technological distinction, or simply a new political and corporate label for technology that most people still call AI.

Why Slovenia Is Suddenly the Hottest Address Online

Musk's embrace of 'SI' has also produced a bizarre side effect thousands of miles away.

'SI' is the country code for Slovenia, and registrations for the country's .si internet domains reportedly soared by 2,199 per cent in September.

More than 44,000 .si addresses were registered during the month, the BBC reported, more than 20 times the figure recorded a month earlier. Around 11,000 were snapped up on 30 September alone — the day after Trump's order was signed.

The connection is particularly amusing because First Lady Melania Trump was born in Slovenia, although there is no evidence linking her personally to the surge.

Slovenia, home to around 2.1 million people, has urged businesses and brand owners to secure .si domains while they remain available.

Yet the registry has warned that Trump's announcement may not explain the entire frenzy. Web host Hostinger also said only around three per cent of newly registered .si names were clearly connected to AI.

Whether the craze lasts could depend on whether other AI giants follow Musk's lead — or decide that, for now, 'AI' is still the name everyone knows.
