Anthropic has publicly filed for an initial public offering (IPO) in the United States, disclosing $16.3 billion (£12.2 billion) in revenue and an $80.7 billion (£60 billion) net loss for the first half of 2026. The filing gives prospective investors a detailed account of the artificial intelligence (AI) company's financial performance ahead of its planned stock market debut.
The company behind the Claude AI assistant submitted its registration statement to the US Securities and Exchange Commission on 26 October. It has applied to list its Class A shares on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker symbol ANT.
Revenue Increases as Net Loss Reaches $80.7 Billion
Anthropic generated $16.3 billion (£12.2 billion) in revenue during the six months ended 30 June 2026, compared with $1.2 billion (£900 million) in the same period last year. The increase reflects higher sales of its AI products and services to business and individual customers.
The company recorded a net loss of $80.7 billion (£60 billion) during the first half of 2026, up from $13 billion (£9 billion) a year earlier. Its filing attributed $72.4 billion ((£54 billion) of the loss to changes in the fair value of convertible notes, derivative liabilities and simple agreements for future equity, primarily driven by an increase in the value of outstanding convertible notes.
Anthropic's operating loss, which measures the difference between revenue and operating expenses, was $693 million (£520 million) for the first half of 2026. This compared with an operating loss of $2.1 billion (£1.5 billion) during the same period in 2025. The company also stated in its filing that it might not achieve or maintain profitability.
Nasdaq Listing Plans and Financial Disclosures
Anthropic has applied to list its Class A shares on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker ANT. The filing does not establish a final offer price or confirm the company's eventual public market valuation.
Moreover, the IPO follows a period of expansion for the company, which develops the Claude family of AI models. Its products are used for tasks including software development, research, writing and business operations.
The registration statement provides prospective investors with information about Anthropic's revenue, expenses, financing arrangements and business risks. It also outlines the company's reliance on computing infrastructure and third-party providers to develop and operate its AI systems.
Filing Outlines Business and AI-Related Risks
Anthropic's registration statement identifies risks related to competition, regulation, cybersecurity and the development of advanced AI systems. These factors could affect its operations, financial results and ability to expand its products and services.
The company also describes the substantial computing resources required to train and operate its AI models. Access to computing capacity, specialised chips and cloud infrastructure forms part of its broader operating requirements.
Anthropic's public offering will give investors an opportunity to purchase shares in the company through the stock market, subject to the completion of the listing process. The filing provides financial and risk disclosures for investors to review as the company proceeds towards its proposed debut.
