An AI-powered teacher misspelled the word 'seventeen' as 'S-E-V-E-E-N' and repeatedly corrected a student who had provided the correct spelling during a conversation shared on X. The exchange showed the system initially adding an extra E to the word and keep insisting that it was spelled 'SEVEEN' and rejecting the student's correct answer, 'SEVENTEEN'.
The conversation, posted by X user Husk (@huskirl), began with a question about how many Es appear in 'seventeen'. The AI repeatedly disputed the student's spelling before eventually providing the correct version itself, although it continued to give an incorrect letter count.

AI Teacher Initially Misspells Seventeen
The conversation began when the man asked, 'I've been getting a lot of mixed answers, but how many E's are in the word seventeen?' The AI responded by spelling the word as 'S-E-V-E-E-N', adding an extra E to the correct spelling.
It then offered the same incorrect version, saying, 'The number seventeen is spelled S-E-V-E-E-N.' The AI claimed that the word contained three Es but insisted that the letter T did not belong in its spelling. It also distinguished between the written word and its numerical value, saying the number itself had no letters.
Furthermore, when the man asked the AI to spell the word again, it repeated, 'S-E-V-E-E-N.' The student then attempted to provide the complete spelling, saying, 'S-E-V-E-N-T-E-E-N'.
AI Rejects Student's Correct Spelling
The AI challenged the man's answer, saying, 'You added a T in there. That would make it seventeen, which is two words.' It continued to insist that the word was simply 'S-E-V-E-E-N', adding, 'No T. You're getting close.'
The man repeated his attempt, spelling the word as 'S-E-V-E-N-T-E-E-N', but the AI again rejected it. He then asked the system how to spell 'fourteen', prompting the AI to correctly provide 'F-O-U-R-T-E-E-N'.
'See that? It's one word,' the AI said. The man questioned the inconsistent explanation by asking, 'So, but seventeen is two words?' The AI rejected the suggestion but did not immediately provide the correct spelling.
AI Corrects Spelling but Gets Letter Count Wrong
The man eventually returned to the original question, asking, 'How many Es are in seventeen?' This time, the AI correctly spelled the word as 'S-E-V-E-N-T-E-E-N'. However, it still gave an incorrect count, saying, 'Well, I was going to say three, but you cut me off.'
Moreover, the man disputed the explanation, replying, 'I didn't even cut you off. I just nodded my head.' The AI acknowledged the misunderstanding but maintained that the answer was three. In fact, the correct spelling contains four Es.
The conversation later shifted to the AI's role as a teacher. When the man asked whether being called a student meant the system was better than him, the AI clarified, 'I'm just saying I'm here to help you practise. You're the one doing the learning, so you're definitely the star of the show.' The man followed up by asking, 'So I'm better than you?' to which the AI replied, 'Well, you certainly have a lot of confidence.'
The exchange adds to the growing number of artificial intelligence errors documented in online interactions, raising further questions about the reliability of AI education tools and the accuracy of information generated by these systems, as the X viral conversation continues to circulate.
