Zelda Williams is drawing a line in the sand regarding artificial intelligence. The filmmaker and performer—whose iconic dad, Robin Williams, died in 2014—recently criticised people for using AI technology.
An artificial intelligence clip of the 'Mrs. Doubtfire' star began spreading widely online, prompting a swift response. Williams urged the public to stop using her late father's voice and appearance to promote views he never expressed.

On 21 September, Zelda posted on her Instagram page to address a trending clip of her dad circulating on social media, making it clear the footage was fabricated using AI. Beyond pointing out that the footage was AI-generated, she criticised both the individuals responsible for creating it and anyone who amplified it by sharing or endorsing it.
Zelda Williams Calls Out the AI Video
Addressing fans on her page, she stated, 'For those still being duped by falsehoods, that supposedly "private video" of Dad that I've been shown talking about conspiracies is clearly AI, and not even particularly convincing AI.' She went on to state, 'Anyone who claims to be a fan and believes it clearly listened to his movies on mute because that voice is robotic and terrible.'

She argued that artificial intelligence has no business being used this way to put words in her father's mouth, directing her criticism at whoever created the trending video. She declared, 'That said, a human made a robot to create it, and to you I say: leave him out of your delusional bulls—and let him rest. If you cannot make your case without making a dead man make it more convincing for you, then tell me: who's the one manipulating the public through media now?'
Wrapping up her message, she explained, 'At this point I'm not sure why I feel the need to come back to clarify, but I love him, so I will. Just because he's gone does not mean he's now your puppet. Have some shame.'
Zelda Williams' Wider Fight Against AI
In her Instagram stories, she expanded on her thoughts, saying she has always opposed the concept of artificial intelligence and strongly disapproves of using the technology to recreate her father.
She noted, 'I am not an impartial voice in SAG's fight against AI. I've witnessed for YEARS how many people want to train these models to create/recreate actors who cannot consent, like Dad. This isn't theoretical; it is very, very real.'
She further shared, 'Living actors deserve a chance to create characters with their choices, to voice cartoons, to put their HUMAN effort and time into the pursuit of performance.'
In separate updates, she criticised the use of the technology, arguing that it can strip individuals of control over their likenesses when they are used to create fabricated videos.
She Has Previously Condemned AI Tributes
This isn't a new stance for Zelda, who has previously spoken out against AI-generated representations of her dad. On 6 October 2025, she asked the public to stop sending her computer-generated photos and videos of him. She wrote, 'If you're just trying to troll me, I've seen way worse; I'll restrict and move on. But please, if you've got any decency, just stop doing this to him and to me, to everyone, even, full stop.'
Famed for his memorable performances in films including 'Aladdin,' 'Good Will Hunting,' 'Dead Poets Society' and 'Mrs. Doubtfire,' Robin Williams died by suicide on 11 August 2014, at the age of 63.
